Medical
You should always try to take advantage of the agreements set between various countries and make the most of what you are already covered for. An E111 form is obtainable from most post offices.

This will only cover you in state hospitals and usually not private clinics. The E111 form is not useable in the USA or Canada and where you can use it, the treatment for illness or injury should you need it; will not be completely covered.

It is often best and safest to have your own private medical insurance, however many tour operators will include this in their package.

Insurance
Never go away without it, you may need to obtain specialist insurance as the standard holiday insurance will not cover you for the whole ski season.

Some specialist insurance companies will have packages tailored to season resort workers but you need to check that you are covered for medical expenses, legal liability and personal accident for the whole duration and not just for 30 – 45 days. Luggage and equipment is something else to consider to be part of the cover.

If you are an advanced skier/snowboarder and may well be doing off-piste runs, jumping, heli drops, this often requires an added premium, so always bare that in mind.

In France you can obtain a 'Carte Neige' which will cover you for off-piste skiing/boarding, this can sometimes cover Austria depending on resort and is only around 35 pounds.

Visas
EU countries
Any EU citizen working or travelling in another EU country does not need a visa or work permit. Germany, Italy, Spain require a residence permit if you are going to stay longer than 3 months.

NON-EU countries
All Europeans will need work permits for non-EU countries, e.g Switzerland and Andorra. The official procedure is to first obtain a job and then the employer must apply for a work permit. Note that Andorra doesn’t have an airport, so you will need a valid passport allowing you to travel through France or Spain.

USA
British citizens do not need to apply for a tourist visa in advance any more. You can fill in a visa waiver form at the airport or usually on the plain that allows a maximum of three months in the country. A B1/B2 visa will allow you to stay in the country for a maximum of six months, but does not allow you to work in 'gainful employment'.

If you are looking for work in the USA you will need to require a 'green card' working visa.
