One of the greatest American ski resorts, purpose-built Aspen's reputation for celebrity and expense (quite apart from great snow) belies the great possibilities it also offers for more budget-conscious guests. Access to all of its four (!) mountains is included in a single pass, and each mountain has something different to offer, meaning all skill levels and tastes are well accommodated at Aspen.

The town of Aspen has been restored to its earlier Victorian atmosphere; it's beautiful and charming, yet modern and efficient in function. Accommodation is mostly luxurious but cheaper options aren't hard to come by. Aspen's nightlife and its ski schools are great; it's scenic and famous with great off-piste and an excellent array of restaurants.
